It’s pretty easy not to believe in man made climate change when every single prediction made by climate scientists has been wrong. The earth has been warming since the last ice age but we have only been accurately collecting relevant data for less that 1% of that time. Also let’s not forget that carbon is the basis for ALL life on this planet and that things like natural gas, coal or oil are all the product of organic matter that was unable to be recycled fast enough to stay apart of the carbon cycle.
But even if it were the case that the climate was indeed being caused by carbon emissions, passing legislation isn’t going to inhibit those companies from selling their product to countries without said legislation. Real change starts with the individual and if it’s a good idea other people with change too. Nobody had to pass laws to get other people to use fire, other peoples adopted fire keeping because it was a good idea that made their lives easier, even with the extra chores and responsibilities that come with. It would be the same would climate change, if you could show people rather than tell them.
Finally, passing laws that limit a persons ability to use fossil fuels might not affect someone the same in the city as a rural area. And passing laws that work for one portion of the population but not another only creates resentment. Especially when you have those people passing laws about concepts they have never even thought about, let alone understand. A perfect example would be the “green new deal”, being pushed by a NYC bartender, telling people how they can and can not raise cattle. How the heck would she know what policies would be effective for them? Even the scientists who inform such laws couldn’t possibly begin to account for all the variables in such a complex equation. For every variable they control there are about ten thousand they didn’t because they didn’t even know they existed. It would be like having a Montana rancher decide how the NYC subway system should be run based on data gathered from their local rail yard. It would be a complete disaster. Education and action on a local level are the only things that are going to work here but passing broad sweeping legislation will hurt more people than it helps. And since we are all in this together whatever hurts some of us hurts all or us.
This is MY apophenia. Paris, the word, Paris in the title case of every agreement by a assembled group of out of towners was disastrous for over 100 years. But that's my apophenia. Dread modern leaders whom educated there..again, my apophenia, my problem.
A lot of new technologies aren’t implemented as they shift the foundations of legacy systems and end up being more expensive no matter the benefits. (I’m talking about air craft but it applies to a lot of other fields) Why does the United States still not use the metric system? Why are single use plastics cheaper than recycled ones? A lot of good stuff is being developed but it’s by private organizations or individuals and at a small scale. Nothing is ever at a national or government level of change.
i love your videos, but they hardly reach anyone. if you can find a way to reach many more people, i will become a patreon supporter. your message needs to reach more people.
I'm just curious, do you think one can stay, or be optimistic about the way climate change is being “taken care of”? Because I don't see a way out of this, like aren't we all massively fucked already? What do you think is supposed to be done?
Great video but also rage inducing
