I've been using a Flower Pot Smoker for almost 15 years and smoked over 1200 Lbs of meat in it.
Do NOT cover the top hole or seal the vents. Smoking requires venting or Air Movement or the outside layer of the Smoke will become Bitter.
You also need to be aware that over smoking can cause bitterness. I typically only smoke a pork butt or brisket for about 3 hours than wrap it to finish. To keep your crust better wrap it in unwaxed butcher paper or you can use parchment paper.
I dissasemble an Electric Hot Plate for the heat source and a small heavy fry pan for the wood chunks.
